Great American Outdoor Show: A Nine-Day Celebration of the Outdoors
Every February, the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg transforms into a sprawling playground for outdoor enthusiasts. For nine days, the halls and arenas — more than 650,000 square feet of them — echo with the sounds of conversation, the hum of live demonstrations, and the energy of tens of thousands of visitors.

The Great American Outdoor Show, as it is known today, was born in 2014. It rose from the legacy of the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, which had entertained sportsmen and women since 1955 before closing in 2013. Backed by the National Rifle Association, the GAOS quickly reclaimed its place as one of the largest events of its kind. In 2015, it drew more than 250,000 attendees, a testament to the passion of the outdoor community.

Each year, over a thousand exhibitors arrive from across the country and beyond, filling the venue with everything from firearms, archery equipment, and fishing tackle to RVs, boats, outdoor apparel, and even wildlife art. The show is not just about products — it’s an experience. Visitors can watch trick-shooting exhibitions, learn fly-fishing techniques from experts, attend over 200 seminars, and meet hunting and fishing celebrities. Children find their own adventures in the Eddie Eagle Kid’s Zone, the trout pond, and rock climbing walls, while families enjoy concerts, competitions, and cooking demonstrations.

The 2026 edition is set for February 7–15, promising another nine days of activity. Doors will open at different times each day, from early-morning starts on weekends to evening hours on weekdays, giving visitors ample opportunity to explore every hall.

Beyond the fun, the Great American Outdoor Show leaves a lasting mark on Harrisburg. It draws visitors from across the United States, fills hotels and restaurants, and brings an economic boost to the region. More than an exhibition, it is a celebration — a meeting ground for hunters, anglers, and outdoor adventurers of all ages, bound by a shared love for the wild.
