Every February, the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham becomes the beating heart of the UK’s shooting community. From enthusiasts and collectors to hunters and industry professionals, thousands gather from across Britain and Europe to attend one of the year’s most anticipated events: The British Shooting Show (BSS).

First launched in 2009 at Stoneleigh Park, the event started on a modest scale. However, backed by the UK’s rich heritage in hunting and shooting, it rapidly gained momentum. In 2019, to accommodate its growing size and reach, the show moved to the prestigious NEC Birmingham – a relocation that firmly established BSS as the leading shooting exhibition in the country.

Walking through the show is a sensory experience. Exhibitors showcase a dazzling array of products: from classic shotguns and precision rifles to cutting-edge night vision scopes and thermal optics. Alongside firearms, attendees will also find archery equipment, outdoor survival gear, hunting apparel, canine accessories, and land management solutions – offering a comprehensive look into the modern world of shooting and hunting.

Despite the UK’s strict firearms regulations, the country maintains a deep-rooted tradition of legal gun ownership and field sports. This is reflected in the BSS’s strong visitor numbers, with over 35,000 attendees annually. The audience spans a diverse range – including landowners, professional deer stalkers, wildlife managers, sporting shooters, gamekeepers, and collectors.

The show offers much more than just product displays. Visitors have the opportunity to interact directly with manufacturers, test the latest innovations, and take part in immersive activities such as simulation shooting, dog demonstrations, and technical seminars. Organizations such as the BASC (British Association for Shooting and Conservation) and GTA (Gun Trade Association) also host sessions focused on legislation, safety, and best practices.

For many, the British Shooting Show marks the symbolic beginning of the UK shooting season. It has become a strategic launchpad for brands to unveil new products, announce partnerships, and reinforce their presence in the British market. For international exhibitors, BSS offers direct access to a highly targeted audience – providing a gateway into the UK's established and passionate shooting community.
